Amar Kaushik, the mastermind behind the blockbuster horror-comedy Stree 2, is currently in London, taking a well-deserved break even as his film continues to shatter box office records. While the industry celebrates his success, Kaushik remains grounded, emphasizing the importance of staying focused on the future. Stree 2, released on August 15, surpassed the lofty totals of Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan and Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, exceeding a staggering Rs 300 crore at the box office within a week.

“We should celebrate it, but the success shouldn’t get into our heads,” Kaushik told Indian Express. “We have a lot of work to do, make more films.”
His dedication to audience satisfaction is evident in his decision to visit cinemas and observe audience reactions firsthand. “Before coming to London, I was going every day to watch the film, see how people are reacting to the film in cinema halls,” Kaushik revealed. “I used to stand behind and see, I could hear women laughing while watching the film. Of course, even the men were enjoying watching the film but women especially were enjoying it. The way women are going ahead and pouring their love for the film, laughing their hearts out, I feel that’s the victory of the film.”
Stree 2 features strong female characters who challenge traditional gender roles. However, Kaushik avoids labelling the film as female-centric. “I won’t call it a female-centric film, it is more,” he explained. “In the film, the female characters are stronger. We have a female saving the men in the film. Around the interval, when there is a song, a woman is gesturing to the boys to go and hide and they do so behind a bangle shop. So, I would say it is not a female-centric or a male-centric film. In my films, I try to have stronger female characters than my male characters, whether it is in Bala, Stree or Bhediya, and now Stree 2.”
The debate over the film’s central star has also sparked some online chatter. While some argue for Shraddha Kapoor’s lead role, others champion Rajkummar Rao. Kaushik remains unfazed by the discussion, emphasizing the ensemble nature of the project. “Who is the star of Stree 2? If you see our posters, the three boys are in front, with Pankaj Tripathi and Shraddha,” he said. “All the five of them are the stars of this film, their characters make the film. Others will come and go, but these five will be the soul of our film. Then our technicians, they have given their 100% to the film. Everybody associated with the film is a star because each and every one of them has given their everything to the film, without even one person, the film wouldn’t be the way it has turned out.”
Stree 2 stars Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Aparshakti Khurana, Pankaj Tripathi and Abhishek Banerjee along with cameos of Varun Dhawan, Akshay Kumar and Tamannaah Bhatia.
